Observance of Odisha Disaster Preparedness Day and National Day for Disaster Reduction Day
-29th October 2020:-

In order to create awareness on Disaster Risk Reduction measures SOLAR Observed the Odisha Disaster Preparedness Day and National Day for Disaster Reduction Day 29th October 2020 following of COVID-19 guidelines & protocols. The programme was organized in the project area of Kanas block in form of a meeting. Nearly 30-35 participants took part in the programme. All participants were used Mask-social distancing and other protocols.

Observance of Anti-Leprosy week on 30th Jan-5th Feb-2021:-

As previous year SOLAR Observed the Anti-Leprosy week such as meeting, Case detection, case follow up mass awareness, leaflet, posters on discards were used in the meeting and personal contact of Patients. How people take facilities of M.D.T. was emphasis. The week long 30th January to 5th February-2021 programme inaugurated at Konark Abdhut Matha.

Government sponsored Programme:-

The coastal district of with 150 KM of coast line is prone to Natural calamities in term of Cyclone, Flood, Tsunami & others. Keeping in view SOLAR Family is regularly carryout Community Based Disaster Preparedness awareness programme such as Meeting, Rally, Training, Mock drill and individual/Group interaction.

Mock Drill:-

With the support of District Administration, Puri and OSDMA. On 19th June 2020, SOLAR organized 40nos. Mock Drill in 5 blocks of Puri district such as Gop, Nimapada, Satyabadi, Delang & Kanas with the active support of Multipurpose Flood/Cyclone Shelter Maintenance Committees, Apadamitra, Task force & Community concerned. The programme was carried out with strictly followed up the COVID-19 guidelines & protocol.

Preparation of Village Disaster Management Plan (VDMP):-

With the support of District administration, Puri as well as OSDMA,Bhubaneswar. SOLAR has taken assignment to complete 40nos. of Village Disaster Management Plan (VDMP). Owing to COVID-19 pandemic, the work was not full progress. However out of 40 SOLAR has completed 25nos of VDMP. The VDMP was prepared at village level after interaction with the community, Village leader/ Taskforce, village education committee, ASHA/AWW/PRI, Sarapancha, Panchayat Samiti member & other stake holders. During preparation of VDMP people mobilized to prepare the village Social Map, Resource Map & Hazard Map as well as collection of data. One /two orientations meetings on preparation of VDMP was organized for understanding & preparation.

Handover of IRPs to Community in a function

The Iron removal plants Powered by solar energy are handed over to the village committee as well as WASH Committee members in a Public Meeting held on 29th March 2022 at Dakhinikera village of Satyabadi Block of Puri district. In this Occasion Sri Akshya Kumar Biswal, Regional Manager of Oxfam India, Odisha, Deputy Collector Emergency, Puri Sri Jintendra Kumar Patra, Chairperson of Satyabadi block, Sri Sunil Kumar Panda, Block Development Officer, Khirod Kumar Behera, Representative of OSDMA-cum- Emergency section Puri, DPO, Sukanta Das, Sukala Sarpanch, Lalita Mohan Senapati, PS Member of sukala Gp Basanta Kumar Biswal, Zilla Parisad Member Narayan Routray, Sarpanch Manjulata Nayak, Bindhan GP, Kanas Block & EX-Sarpanch Sabita Mohapatra, Talamala GP of Brahmagiri Block, Harish Chandra Dash, Secretary SOLAR we are attended the Handed over Function as a Guest of Honor as well as all dignitaries were presented their opinion, Suggestions best on Iron Removal Plants and its impacts to the community in coming days. During the function the invited delegates were handed over the Handing over documents to the 15nos of WASH Committee representatives. The chairman of Satyabadi Panchyat Samiti, Members of Zila Parisada, Sarpanchs and Govt. Officials were highly appreciated the programme. They also assured to scale up the similar model at their end.

The situation is more critical the families having PWD/Independent women. Keeping in view 15 PWDs Self Help Groups consisting more than 620 members were engaged in production of Candle, Coir-Doormats, Doll making. All the PWD SHG members have developed good relationship with the Govt. for mobilization of resources and Marketing.

District level consultation with Govt. & other stakeholders

District level consultation with Govt. & other stakeholders held at Youth Hostel, Puri on 25th March 2022. There were 50 participants from the different Govt. Officials, PRIs, NGOs, Media Representatives, Village community leaders participated in this meeting. The Objective of the Meeting was Providing Access to safe drinking water through installation of Iron Removal Plants Powered by solar energy and focused the impact of Iron Removal Plants as well as prior to replicate of this model towards convergence Govt. resources from the Punchayat fund and RWS&S department. In this Occasion Sunil Kumar Panda, Chairperson of Satyabadi Punchayat samity, Assistant Director of Agriculture Nabakisore Mohapatra, Asutosa Das, OSDMA, Puri, Harishchandra Dash, Secretary, SOLAR, Bhagirathi Nayak, NGO representative SMRC, Bhubaneswar & Jaganatha Bastia, Media forum, Puri were attended as a Guest of Honor and recommended their suggestions to popularized the model and do the advocacy at various level for its replication. The utility of the Iron Removal Plants and getting the Iron free safe drinking water presented the views of concerned village Committee members those were participated in the meeting. Secondly, a district level net work namely “Safe drinking water campaign” (SDWC) was formed to monitor and facilitate the drinking water facilities in the Block and District.

Orientation training of PRI members

Orientation Training of PRI Members and other stakeholders were organized at Kusumbenti GP Office of Brahmagiri Block of Puri District on 26th March 2022. There were 60nos of representatives from ASHA, AWW, Village Volunteers, PRIs, WASH Committee members and GP level Govt Officials were participated in this training. During this training discussion were highlighted Iron content issues in drinking water and its technical Issues as well as low cost model on Iron Removal Plant with solar energy. Representatives were put forth their interest and suggested to integrate the Iron removal Plants under GPDP plan. The representatives were happy and grateful to local NGO SOLAR, Oxfam India & Livpure foundation for doing the best model of Iron removal Plants installed at their area to providing access to Iron free safe drinking water

Facilitation of Interface meeting with Panchayat and Govt. Administration:

In order to strengthen the coordination among Block and Punchayat level Govt. Officials in 4 nos of Facilitation of Interface meeting with the different stakeholders of the PRIs, Community, Govt., WASH Committee members were held at Golara, Kanas on 14.06.2021, Talakokala, Brahmagiri on 20.6.2021, Apiti, Brahmagiri on18.9.2021 and Behera sahi, Karamala,Kanas on 26.10.2021. In this meeting PRIs members & community shared the gaps between the Govt. Policy and Action Programme. Secondly, they also shared to submit their proposed action plan timely in the Block level Officials to replicate Iron Removal Plants from the Govt. funds under Gramapanchyat Development funds.

The following points were emerged from the discussed such as
• To strengthen the coordination of PRI members and Block level Govt Officials.
• Plan to mobilize more Govt. Funds in the Health and water safety measure and Sanitation.
• More orientation to WASH Committee, SEM and AWW, ASHA on safe drinking water management.

Monitoring and Evaluation:

Periodical monitoring being organized by programme coordinator and management. The regular monthly staff review and planning meeting were organized to overcome the gaps and reduce the risk and challenges as well as to provide feedback to the staff. Besides, resource support agencies such as OXFAM India, Govt. of Odisha and others monitor programme activities time to time.

Periodically meeting of General Body as well as Governing Committee:

As previous years SOLAR regularly organing its Governing Committee and General Body, regularly.

Puri District Disaster Mitigation Forum (PDDMF):

SOLAR is also convener of Puri district Disaster Mitigation Forum, which is working in the 11 blocks of Puri district to deal with Disaster Risk Reduction programme.
