Humanitarian Response Programme

a) Since there were not available of vaccine/Drug to cure COVid-19affected people, SOLAR took awareness on prevention measures To follow Govt. protocol as well as maintain social distancing, use of mask, Hand washing and try to stay home in the project area as well as with the support of network in Puri district.
b) 1250 packets of dry rations containing Rice, Fat rice, Dal, Vegetables & Spices were distributed as well as Cash support to migrant labors, distress persons, people with Disable persons in the Konark NAC, Gop, Nimapada and Kakatpur blocks of Puri district.
c) 6150 nos. Mask, 6900 soaps, 250 packets sanitary pad and 350 Sanitizer et c. were distributed in the most sensitivity area of the Kanas block in Puri district.
d) Rs. 5000/- ( Rupees Five thousand) paid to the 25 nos. of poor and vulnerable, land less people as unconditional cash transfer (UCT) programme under food security scheme.
e) 150 PPE kits were given to the Chief District medical officer, District Hospital, puri.
f) Rally and village meetings were organized to create general awareness onCOVID-19 Pandemic in and out skirt areas of Project villages, such as hand washing, social distancing, use of mask and strictly follow up Govt. protocol time to time.


Disaster Risk Reduction

Since community is the first responders to disaster, initiative was taken to strengthening community and community level institutions through Disaster Risk Reduction Programme.
B-1.Updating of 10 nos, Viiage level Disaster Management Plan (VDMP):-
The village level Disaster Management Plan (VDMP) is the mirror of area villages from which it can early assess the Hazard zone, vulnerability and other socio-economic and cultural status of the concerned villages. So, 10 nos. village levels VDMC in the most vulnerable pockets of Kanas block in Puri district.
B.2.Handholding for strengthening existing community institution CVDMC and WASH Committees:-
There were 10nos. village level meeting organized to interact with the people on Disaster Risk Reduction and prepared village level Disaster Plan (VDMC)as well as WASH (water sanitation & Hygiene ) plan with the active involvement of village Task force, CBO’S, PRI, Apadamitra, AWW,ASHA& others. There were 398 volunteers if different Groups actively involved in this process. After preparation of the above plan were shared with in the village committee, Pallisabha, Gramsabha to integrate in the Block and district level Development plan for mobilization of resources. GIS & GPS teachers were applied in preparation of VDMP & WASH Plan.
B.3 Village level meeting of VDMCs and WASH Committees:-
village level plan meetings of VDMC and WASH Committees and there interfaces with Panchayats. There were 10nos.of village level meetings were organized in different vulnerable villages in different dates for mobilization of resources to carryout Disaster preparedness and mitigation activity. There were 265 participants from the different community institution were oriented how to access the Govt. Grampa nchayat and community resources mobilization.
B.4- Community and village institution level Preparedness for Disaster including mock Drill:-
In order to create awareness on Disaster Preparedness as well as emergency response at Community level. There were 10nos; Mock Drills were organized in the ten vulnerable villages of Kanas block. There were 468 participants from village level Task force team members, Apadamitra, SHG, CBO’S,PRI, Fire service, PRI members, ASHA,AWW and other stake holders actively involved in this mock Drill. The mock drill had a good impact on the concerned village community to deal with Disasters in coming period.
B.5- Preparation and sharing of IEC Materials on access the resilient WASH:-
IEC materials are developed through Flex print on personal Health &Hygiene, Hand Wash and social distancing, use of Mask, how to handle and storage of safe drinking water, water chain management. The IEC Materials were prepared to create awareness on natural Disaster as well as COVID-19 pandemic.
B.6- School safety programme:-
Based on National School safety policy, SOLAR Family every year carried out School safety programme in the 10 Project area school as model demonstration and sharing of School DRR IEC materials, meeting on personal hygiene and environmental sanitation benefit of hand washing, water chain management. This year Govt. guide line on COVID-19 were shared in the School, such as, social distancing, use of Mask, hand washing and try to stay mote time in houses.


Water Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH) intervention

Kanas block in Puri district is prone to natural calamity. Access to safe drinking water for the community becomes very difficult year the round. The situation during emergencies like flood, cyclone is more critical. Keeping in view SOLAR family took initiative for WASH (Water, Sanitation & Hygiene) in this project as well as other vulnerable pockets through Net work. More emphasis paid for safe drinking water through Iron Removal Plant, Construction of IHL, School Sanitation and WASH awareness through Net works.
Installation of Iron removal Plants with solar based energy source:-
Providing Access to safe drinking water in water quality hit flood and Coastal Disaster prone villages in Odisha with support of Oxfam India and Livpure foundation was implemented in the most vulnerable villages of Kanas block as safe drinking water interventions under this project. 8 Iron removal plants with solar energy were installed in 8 vulnerable villages of Kanas, Brahmagiri & satyabadi block in Puri district. Nearly three thousand one hundred thirty-two people are being getting safe drinking water round the year.
Testing of Water sources:-
Water testing of all identified water sources were completed in five Community members were involved in collection of samples and follow-up with RWSS of Govt.of Odisha in Puri district.
Community Contribution:-
Each intervene village community contribution was collected Minimum Rs.20/-from water user house hold every month to their community fund for the maintenance of the IRP towards day to day Maintenance of IRPs.
Formation of WASH Committees, Strengthening of Gram Kalyan samitis and developing WASH Plans:-
In order to indentify the appropriate drinking water sources and smooth implementation of the low cost flood resistant community managed solar energized Iron removal plants village WASH Committee were formed with active involvement of the VDMC/TF/Apadamitra/SHG/CBOs in the concerned 8 nos. villages. Village level institutions like Gram Kalyan Samiti, youth club, women self help groups, AWW, ASHA were oriented on the project.
Community Capacity building in WASH including water sources chlorination , minor, repairs, safe water storage and handling:-
On 20th December 2020 one day capacity building training organized invitees selective stake holders from project villages on WASH , minor repairing maintenance handling and storage of safe drinking water, chlorination of water tank and its maintenance. Block /GP level Govt. officials and local SEMs were imparted training the participants. Besides follow up village level meetings were organized with the co-operation of concerned local officials include SEM in the project villages. Nearly 35 participants from various community sectors were participated and shared their views.
IEC and wall painting:-
In order to increase awareness and imported health and Hygiene message shared to people. 8 nos. wall painting, Handout and flex were prepared and distributed to the people. All the wall paintings were written on the outer surface of the Iron Removal Plants and other important places of the village.
C.7-Facilitation of interface meetings with Panchayats:-
Interface meetings were organized to influence various stakeholders to operation WASH Plan and to integrate to Iron Removal Plants for water security in their disaster prone villages and water quality hit areas.
Regular orientation meeting/ training to the PRIs and other stakeholders:-
In order to sustainable and scale up the IRP in out skit project are the role of the PRI members/WASH Committee members / SHG/other stakeholders are highly required. So, SOLAR regularly organized village/GP level training /Orientation meetings on WASH and mobilization of resources.
Inaugural function of Handling over of Iron Removal Plants:-
On 10th march 2021, a small function was organized at Kausalyapur, Brahagiri block in Puri district. On Inaugural function for Handing over of Iron Removal Plants (IRP). Mr. Paresh Pradhan, Sr.Management member of Livpure Foundation, Mr.Akshya Kumar Biswal, Regional Manager, Oxfam India, Bhubaneswar, Mr.Bimal Prasad Pandia, Programme Officer, Oxfam India, Bhubaneswar,Harish Chandra Dash, Honorary Secretary. SOLAR, Mrs. Itishri Nayak, Dy.Collector (Emergency), Collect orate, Puri, B.D.O., Brahmagiri, Sarapancha and PRI members of Talakokala GPs., Member of WASH Committee, VDMC, SHG and other community leaders were took part in this programme . All guests were emphasized regular cleaning and maintenance collection of User fees for its sustainable and in respect of WASH preparedness –Post disaster.
